The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj‑Napoca, ranked among Romania’s leading “advanced research” universities and recognized by the European University Association, annually host the International Conference “Life Sciences for Sustainable Development”, which provides a dynamic forum for exchanging scientific knowledge and innovative approaches across agriculture, plant and animal sciences, food technology, biotechnology, veterinary medicine and related interdisciplinary fields. The programme includes keynote lectures by distinguished speakers, oral and poster sessions showcasing recent advances aligned with European (Horizon 2020) and national research priorities.
The conference’s thematic scope for horticulture, landscape and rural development encompasses, among other topics: vegetable and fruit production; viticulture and oenology; floriculture and landscape architecture; plant breeding and biotechnology; urban horticulture; sustainability and organic systems; biodiversity and conservation of endemic and protected species; quality of life; cultivar improvement adapted to climate change and contemporary cropping systems; recycling and valorisation of horticultural by‑products; and environmentally favourable horticultural technologies. Economic and social dimensions include agribusiness management and marketing, EU agricultural policy, rural development and sociology, financial management and taxation, and rural tourism and local product development.
By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaborative networks, the conference seeks to consolidate best practices, identify pathways for methodological improvement, and catalyse new research partnerships within the European policy context.
Other benefits to consider: Delegates will also have the opportunity to experience Cluj‑Napoca—a dynamic cultural centre in the heart of Transylvania—and to visit other historic sites in the region. A Best Poster award grants free registration for the next conference.
Participants may also visit Cluj‑Napoca and regional historical sites.
